Korea's first large-cap holder benefit program is live. Lotte Shopping takes Japan's design, from one share up.
On 1 November 2026, Lotte Shopping (KRX:023530, about $2.0B) opened L.HONORS CLUB, a holder benefit program across its department stores, marts, supermarkets and online mall. Korean media describe it as the first program of its kind at a major Korean group. Lotte Shopping is the listed retail arm of the Lotte Group, Korea's 6th largest business group with ₩142.4 trillion ($106B) in assets; the group's holding company, Lotte Corporation (about $1.3B), is its largest shareholder, and the group's listed companies are worth about ₩16 trillion ($12B) together. Until now, holder benefits in Korea were a small and mid-cap practice. The design follows the Japanese model almost point for point: one share to enter, more for holders who stay, and claims inside the company's own loyalty app.

Three layers: a welcome, a spend bonus and a tenure tier.
L.HONORS CLUB sits on L.POINT, the Lotte Group's integrated membership. Holders register in the L.POINT app, and every benefit is delivered there.
| Layer | Who qualifies | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome | Every holder of 1 share or more, on first sign-up | A one-time coupon of 10% to 20% off at Lotte Department Store, Lotte Mart, Lotte Super and Lotte On, within set limits |
| Spend bonus | All members | Extra L.POINT of 1%, 2% or 3% at spend levels of ₩1M, ₩2M and ₩3M ($750, $1,490 and $2,240) |
| Premium | 1,000 shares or more, held for over a year, about the top 1% of holders | Department store lounge access, valet and parking passes, plus extra discount and free-delivery coupons for marts, supermarkets and Lotte On |

Beyond dividends: holders who are also customers.
Lotte Shopping presents the program as a second form of holder return next to its dividend policy. Its head of finance, Lim Jae-chul, frames it as a way to give holders tangible benefits, build long-term trust and support corporate value.

In Japan, 4 in 10 listed companies do this. In Korea, the large caps are only starting.
Before Lotte, Korean holder benefits came mostly from smaller consumer brands. Korean coverage of the launch uses Japan as the reference point, and expects food and consumer goods companies to follow.

In Korea, the broker app already confirms who holds the shares.
Lotte reads its holder register every quarter. Korean brokers go further: they check holdings inside their own trading apps and issue benefits on the spot. That is the part of the model that scales across issuers.
- 01Real-time holder checks in the trading appShinhan Securities (part of Shinhan Financial Group, ~$39bn) built real-time holder verification and online coupon issuance on the holdings in customers' accounts, working with an IR firm. - 04From one market to every venueThe Korean setup works broker by broker, inside one country. Holders of the same company now sit on exchanges, brokers and wallets in many countries, and increasingly on chain.
Japan's model travels, and large caps are adopting it.
The Japanese template works as is
One unit to enter, a tier for time held, benefits paid in the company's own ecosystem. Lotte changed the packaging, not the structure.
Not a small-cap tactic any more
A major retail group now runs a program in Korea, as a third of Japan's 100 largest companies already do. Coverage expects food and consumer names to follow.
Rewarding holders who stay
The richest benefits go to holders of 1,000 shares for over a year. The budget follows tenure, the behaviour issuers say they want.
The register is the bottleneck
A quarterly register read works inside one market. Holders on global venues and on chain need verification wherever their shares live.
Claiming happens in an app
Lotte routes every benefit through L.POINT, as Toyota, NTT and SoftBank Corp route theirs through their own apps. Each claim is an active customer.
Verified holders, on every venue
Yutai is the utility layer that lets listed companies recognise and reward verified holders across exchanges, brokers, wallets and chains, with the program design they already know from Japan and now Korea.

Holder benefit programs are voluntary marketing programs set by issuers or venues. They are not shareholder rights, carry no cash value, and are not dividends or investment returns. Their legal and tax treatment differs by country and by holder. Issuers and venues should take their own legal and tax advice before launching or promoting a program, and holders should check how benefits are taxed where they live.
