Three companies filed benefit changes on October 13, the first business day after a long weekend. One program will end with a takeover. The other two are growing.
Shareholder benefits, known in Japan as kabunushi yutai (株主優待), are voluntary perks that listed companies give their holders, usually products, vouchers or discounts on the company's own services. They are set by each company's board and are separate from dividends.

The filings
Toubujyuhan
TSE Standard · 3297 · Used-home renovation and resale, Yamaguchi · Filed October 13
Toubujyuhan gave holders regional food products once a year, worth about ¥1,000 to ¥3,000 depending on holdings and with more for holders of three years or more. Its board supports a tender offer by a larger listed home resale company, launched as part of the founder's succession planning, that is expected to lead to delisting. The company will abolish the benefit from the May 2027 cycle on condition that the tender offer succeeds, and cut its year-end dividend forecast to zero. The May 2026 benefit is still provided.
Sun Asterisk
TSE Prime · 4053 · Digital product development and IT services · Filed October 13
Sun Asterisk announced a points benefit in December 2025 for holders of 600 shares or more, with higher amounts for those who have held for a year. Before its first distribution in the December 2026 cycle, it has raised the points for one-year holders, for example from 6,000 to 7,000 points at 600 shares, and added Amazon gift cards to the exchange options.
Nippon Ski Resort Development
TSE Growth · 6040 · Ski resort operator · Filed October 13
Nippon Ski Resort Development gives holders discounted lift tickets from 100 shares and a joint season pass from 3,000 shares. For the 2026/27 winter, it adds Marunuma Kogen in Gunma, a resort run by a partner outside the group, to both benefits. Tsugaike Mountain Resort in Nagano, which accepted only the lift discount, will now also accept the season pass. Only individual holders with a Japanese address are eligible. The company cited closer ties with partner resorts.
Context
Toubujyuhan is the second company in three weeks to tie the end of its benefit to a tender offer, after Project Holdings on September 28. When a takeover leads to delisting, the benefit program is usually one of the first things to go.
Nippon Ski Resort Development shows a different point. Its benefit is valuable because it is the company's own service, but eligibility is limited to individual holders with a Japanese address. That is common in Japanese programs and is a direct consequence of how they are delivered.
Yutai's view
A season pass or lift ticket is a strong benefit for a ski operator, and resorts like these draw visitors from abroad. Restricting the benefit to holders with a Japanese address leaves out exactly the holders who might travel to use it. Delivery that verifies holders wherever they are would remove that limit.
