Seihyo moves its ice cream gift to arrive in summer; ASNOVA Companies sets its new program

Seihyo is moving its benefit to February so the frozen gift arrives as summer begins. ASNOVA Companies, the new holding company of ASNOVA, formally introduced a catalog gift for one-year holders. Lacto Japan published this year's catalog, which includes a food bank donation option.

Several companies filed benefit notices on October 14. Our October 16 brief covered the larger changes from that day. This post covers three further filings.

Shareholder benefits, known in Japan as kabunushi yutai , are voluntary perks that listed companies give their holders, usually products, vouchers or discounts on the company's own services. They are set by each company's board and are separate from dividends.

The filings

Seihyo

TSE Standard · 2872 · Ice confectionery and ice cream, Niigata · Filed October 14

Seihyo gives holders a set of its ice confections, ice cream and Japanese sweets, worth ¥2,000 to ¥4,000 depending on holdings. The benefit moves from an August cycle to a February cycle from February 2027, so delivery shifts from October and November to May and June. The company said shareholders had asked about the timing and it wants the products to arrive as summer begins. The amounts are unchanged.

ASNOVA Companies

TSE Growth · 640A · Scaffolding rental and sales · Filed October 14

ASNOVA reorganized under a new holding company, ASNOVA Companies, which listed on October 1 under a new securities code. The previous points program ended with the September 2026 cycle. The new company is introducing a catalog gift, digital with paper on request, worth about ¥5,000 for 1,000 to 4,999 shares and about ¥10,000 for 5,000 shares or more, once a year from the March 2027 cycle. Holders need to have held for a year. For the first cycle, holders of 500 or more shares of the former company in September 2026 who hold 1,000 or more new shares in March 2027 also qualify.

Lacto Japan

TSE Prime · 3139 · Dairy and food ingredients trading · Filed October 14

Lacto Japan published the catalog for its 2026 benefit, available to holders of two years or more. Holders of 100 to 299 shares choose a product worth about ¥3,000, such as cheese, gelato or butter sets, and holders of 300 shares or more choose one worth about ¥5,000. Holders in either tier can instead donate the value to Second Harvest Japan, a food bank. The rules are unchanged from last year.

Context

Seihyo's change is about the product, not the program. An ice cream gift that arrives in late autumn is less useful than one that arrives in early summer, and the company moved the whole cycle to fix that.

ASNOVA's filing shows how corporate reorganizations carry benefits across. When a company moves under a new holding company with a new securities code, the old program ends and the new company has to adopt its own. ASNOVA added a transitional rule so that existing holders are counted.

Lacto Japan's donation option is uncommon but not unique. It lets holders who do not want the product turn the benefit into a contribution.

Yutai's view

Each of these filings is a design choice about what holders actually want: timing, continuity, or the option to give the benefit away. A benefit works best when it fits the holder, and these companies are adjusting theirs to do that.
