TOUMEI moves to four benefit cycles a year; Ondeck introduces its first program

TOUMEI is raising its digital gift and paying it quarterly, with an extra amount for holders who are also customers. Ondeck, an M&A advisory firm, introduced its first benefit, and HIMARAYA announced a 50th-anniversary benefit.

October 15 added three more benefit filings to a busy week. Our October 16 brief covered property technologies, which also filed that day.

Shareholder benefits, known in Japan as kabunushi yutai , are voluntary perks that listed companies give their holders, usually products, vouchers or discounts on the company's own services. They are set by each company's board and are separate from dividends.

Context

TOUMEI's change combines two ideas: more frequent benefits, which keep the company in front of holders through the year, and an extra benefit for holders who are also customers. The second is rare in Japan. Most programs reward ownership alone.

New programs continue to appear among small Growth market companies. Ondeck chose an e-gift rather than a product, a common choice for service businesses with nothing physical to send.

Yutai's view

Linking a benefit to both ownership and customer status is where holder loyalty and customer loyalty meet. TOUMEI does it with a form and a manual name check. Verifying holders and customers at scale, across every channel where the shares are held, is the infrastructure problem behind that idea.
